New Zealand - 19th December 2025

Another country in the bag.  Or on the table more precisely.  I know, I really am slacking off but for some reason I'm struggling to get back into the groove of my alpha dinners.  And not for lack wanting to cook.  I cook, plenty.  I actually cook even more now that I no longer work.  I make my own bread, my own cookies, my own crackers, my own yogurt (the best), and many dinners.  I just don't seem to be much in the mood to entertain.  Perhaps I simply need to go back to the roots of the story and start cooking for Eric only.  And go from there.

Last December, on occasion of a visit by my old good friend Luca, I decided to make an alpha dinner and it was the turn of New Zealand. I figure, lamb would be on the menu but only because you often find New Zealand lamb in the supermarket and because one knows that New Zealand has more sheep than people. Aside from that I didn't know much about their cuisine.

Turns out that pavlova is a New Zealand specialty.  I never made pavlova, it looks quite hard to make but in reality it's quite simple.  And impressive on the table too.

So I made the following menu:

Appetizer: Whitebait Fritters 8.5

Main Course: Stuffed leg of lamb 9

served with Honey and Rosemary Kumara 9.5

Dessert: Classic Pavlova 10

So quite a big success!
